In the French education system, Maternelle encompasses the early childhood education levels, typically for children aged 3 to 6 years old. 

These levels are:

Petite Section (PS), equivalent to K3, for 3-year-olds.

Moyenne Section (MS), equivalent to K4, for 4-year-olds.

Grande Section (GS), equivalent to K5, for 5-year-olds.

Maternelle focuses on the early development of social skills, basic numeracy and literacy, and fostering a love for learning through play and structured activities. It's a foundational stage in the French education system.

École Élémentaire refers to elementary school, which typically serves children from ages 6 to 11. Here's how it aligns with the American K-5 system:

Cours Préparatoire (CP): Equivalent to 1st grade, for 6-year-olds.

Cours Élémentaire 1 (CE1): Equivalent to 2nd grade, for 7-year-olds.

Cours Élémentaire 2 (CE2): Equivalent to 3rd grade, for 8-year-olds.

Cours Moyen 1 (CM1): Equivalent to 4th grade, for 9-year-olds.

Cours Moyen 2 (CM2): Equivalent to 5th grade, for 10-year-olds.

In École Élémentaire, the curriculum focuses on developing foundational skills in reading, writing, mathematics, science, and social studies. Additionally, students are introduced to arts, physical education, and a second language.
